The National Operational Programme for "Networks and Mobility", co-financed by Italy and the European Union, is developed in the southern Italian regions of Campania, Calabria, Puglia and Sicily to speed up and improve the sustainability of the transport network. The objective of the Operational Programme is to improve rail and road connections, upgrade airports, ports and interports and integrate new smart transport systems.

The 2007-2013 National Operational Programme (NOP) for "Networks and Mobility" is developed to streamline, speed up and improve the sustainability of transport routes, improving connections between the markets in Northern Europe and the Mediterranean, Africa and Asia. The regions of Campania, Puglia, Calabria and Sicily are key transport and trading nodes between Europe and most of the world.

The Programme operates in the above mentioned Regions under the Convergence Objective, with the aim of developing logistical and freight transport infrastructures and services for businesses, while promoting the economic development and competitiveness of the regions involved and the entire country. The financial allocation is 1,832,971,855 euros, co-financed by Italy and the European Union, for projects relating to railways, ports, interports, airports, roads, smart transport systems and for supporting the logistical sector.


Making transport safer and more efficient

The funded projects are aimed at enhancing the competitiveness of the transport systems.

roadsRemoving the causes of congestion, to speed up freight transport and reduce pollution on roads and railways.

Developing intermodality, especially for air transport.

Strengthening the role of southern ports, to capture intercontinental and trans-oceanic trade.

Developing a technological system capable of improving transport service quality, ensuring traffic and territorial control, raising safety standards, in particular with regard to smart transport systems.
