The National Operational Programme for "Networks and Mobility", co-financed by Italy and the European Union, is developed in the southern Italian regions of Campania, Calabria, Puglia and Sicily to speed up and improve the sustainability of the transport network. The objective of the Operational Programme is to improve rail and road connections, upgrade airports, ports and interports and integrate new smart transport systems.

The 2007-2013 National Operational Programme for "Networks and Mobility" provides a contribution to developing an integrated and multimodal logistic system serving trade between the markets of Northern Europe and the Mediterranean, Africa and Asia.

The NOP capitalises on the strategic geographical position of the Convergence Objective Regions  - Campania, Calabria, Puglia, Sicily - with a view to developing freight logistics and transport infrastructure and services, promoting the economic development and competitivity of the areas concerned and the entire country.

Completing and improving the large Corridors of European interest, Corridor 1 Berlin - Palermo and Corridor 21 - the Motorways of the Sea - developing links between the Corridors and between the latter and the production poles of the Regions concerned.
Improving the intermodal nature of the transport systems, strengthening the nodal infrastructure - CARGO airports, interports, road-rail modal exchange centres, also through forms of support for businesses for the development and upgrading of the logistic nodes.
Improving the quality, efficiency and safety of transport networks and freight traffic flows, through the adoption of communication technologies supporting the networks, of traffic and territorial control systems, of safety and signalling systems.
